Heron 2nd varsity 8 grabs 2nd straight award

GENEVA, N.Y.—For the second week in a row, the William Smith College second varsity eight was named the Liberty League Women’s Crew Co-Boat of the Week. As a team, the Herons have claimed the Boat of the Week award six out of the seven times it has been presented this season.

In Worcester, Mass. over the weekend, the William Smith second varsity eight of sophomore Julie Kozarsky (Shawnee/Medford, N.J.), senior Kathryn Priest (King & Low-Heywood Thomas/Stamford, Conn.), sophomore Jess Wojslaw (Norwalk/Norwalk, Conn), sophomore Lucinda Keck (The Lawrenceville School/Princeton, N.J.), senior Susan K. Tarrant (Kimball Union Academy/Cleverdale, N.Y.), first-year Anne Wakeman (Lawrence Academy/Marlboro, N.Y.), first-year Emily Maguire (Miss Porter’s School/Madison, Conn.), first-year Alexandra Bowers (Tabor Academy/East Sandwich, Mass.), and junior Michelle Dodge (St. Paul’s School/Jackson, N.H.) reached the grand final of the ECAC Championship.

The Herons finished second in their qualifying heat behind Williams, but ahead of Ithaca, Holy Cross, Mary Washington, and Wellesley. William Smith placed fourth in the thrilling grand final. The Herons covered the 2,000-meter course in 7:05.25, just a shade over three seconds away from a medal. William Smith edged fifth place Smith by just 0.133 seconds and sixth place New Hampshire by 0.202 seconds.
